So, this year Paul brought home flowers for all his girls for Valentines. (a couple days early) Sorry no picture of me with mine. The girls loved them, and it was so cute to see their reactions. Paul gave me the cutest little book that the kids wrote little notes to me in. He also gave me a Lucy gift card that I can't wait to spend. He was going to be out of town until really late Valentines night, but he hopped an early flight and walked in around 10:00pm. It was great and we got to spend the last couple of hours of Valentines together.
I know I don't talk about Paul a lot on this blog, but he is a really private person. I'm not sure how he would react to me putting things out there for the whole world to see, so I try to respect him. I do want everyone out there to know what a great guy he is. If you had any idea what he has been through the past couple of months (again, he's private so I won't say what), you would be so amazed and impressed at his willpower, dedication, self-discipline, etc. All I can say right now is that we are SO GLAD IT IS OVER!!! We love you so much babe and are so happy to have you BACK!
Okay, so I just read through that last paragraph and it totally sounds like he was in rehab or something. That is NOT the case...not even close. Next ingredient...
Here is the evolution of Max and his new birthday bike. The pictures tell the story quite well. His birthday isn't for two more weeks, but Daddy had the time to take him to choose his bike yesterday and we took advantage. He is so excited and I love that the weather is so good for it.
Last but not least, the big news of the week is that Ella got her ears pierced yesterday. She has been begging for it since Kindergarten and I just always said, "someday." I think I said when your 12 once, but I must have said 8 too because she had it in her head that it would happen when she was 8. This has turned into the focus of turning 8 instead of her baptism, so I figured it wasn't really that big of a deal and that we should go ahead and get it done now. She was SO DANG CUTE about it. I could tell on the drive (just the two of us...again, SO GLAD to have Daddy back) she was getting nervous. I told her that when we got there that if she changed her mind that was just fine.
So we get there and she chooses the plain little diamond studs. PERFECT! So, the worker comes over. As you can see from the pictures, she wasn't really striking any confidence in the mother of this precious girl who was going to permanently put holes in her ears!!! WHAT WAS I DOING?! She was actually a really nice girl and was great with Ella. She was very non-chalant and acted like it was no big deal...just what Ella needed. Ella was a champ, and is now over the moon about her new pierced ears. I think it looks really cute. So, this begs the quesiton...What is the big deal about pierced ears? Why did I want her to wait until she was 18? Why does it have to be such a big issue of deciding an appropriate age? I can see all sides of this argument and personally decided that it really isn't that big of a deal. We made Ella promise on film that this was her only piercings she would EVER GET. You can view it below.

Cute Kara. I can't wait to see Ella with her new earrings. I'm so glad Paul's back too!
Cute Apron, Cute Flowers, Cute Bike-rider, Cute Daddy, Cute Earrings, Cute everything. I am glad things are going better for your husband.
Sunday stew is a great idea.
Even though we didn't know Paul was going through a tough time, we are glad to hear all is well in Kellyville. I know what you mean about the earings. I had to wait until I was twelve. It seemed like EVERYONE had earings before I did. I've decided with my girls the rule will be when I think they are ready to care for them. Otherwise I will be the one making sure they don't get infected...like I need one more thing to be responsible for. I think you made a good decision...as if my opinion counts for anything. :)
I think I may sit my kids down in front of my new Mac (yes, i got one) and make them commit to not doing all kinds of things.....for the record.:)
I laughed when I saw the girl piercing Ella's ears. You should have made her promise not to ever color her hair like a rainbow, too. So cute!
Loved the video...I love seeing the bloggers and spouses. I can start picturing my cyberfriends better.
(Was my last comment obnoxious? I've worried about it...)
I wish I knew your hubbie better, he sounds like a rock for your family. How nice for you guys to get some time with him on Valentines Day. Your little family is darling and it is fun to see them grow up. I love that we have this blogging world to keep us together. Love ya! Melinda
What, no belly button ring? You guys are soooo old fashion :)
I actually love that you made her "promise" on camera- too cute.
Fun to see Paul- I miss that guy.
Love your "cooking face" Thats how I feel about it as well.
I love that video!! How funny...and smart! And what a sweet husband you have--flowers for all the girls! I like that idea... :)
Ella is so brave--I didn't get my ears pierced until after I was married (21)! I don't know why I thought it was such a big deal. :)
That was so sweet of Paul to remember all his ladies for Valentines.
I'm so glad the test is over! I think more for you then Paul.
As soon as I got to the ear piercing part of the post my only thought was "OH CRAP!" Romey's been off this topic for a while and this would bring the topic up again. I do plan on keeping her off your blog for a little while. I know she will find out soon enough and I'll have to deal with it but, I'm a little drained at the moment. I can't remember who but, someone told me how they got their little girls ears pierced right before they were eight too to take the focus off of the piercing. They also got to wear a special pair of earring for their baptism. One day I'm sure I'll be taking Romey in too, I'm just not ready for it yet. I think it will make me feel like she is so grown up and I'm not ready. Tell Ella to keep it on the DL.
That was pure parental bullying! I love it! Chris thinks 16, I say 8 but like you said, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. But I think when I would sneek my older sisters dangly earrings out of the house in 4th grade to wear them to school...such a rebel. I don't want my girls to grow-up too fast like I think I did. Boo hoo.
p.s love the rehab disclaimer!
Kara you are absolutely darling!! LOVE the apron. I'm so glad that I have you to go through all these things first before I do (piercing and such)! Thanks for your insights.
Yummy stew! I too was laughing at the girl who pierced Ella's ears and thinking- wow, nice help! Glad she aimed straight. I think getting your ears pierced is no big deal. I was three and BEGGING my parents so off we went and I regretted it ever. Rich disagrees, but we know who runs the show, right! I think I'll wait until they ask, but once they do, off we'll go.
Loved the apron. I would wear that after church if I had one that cute.
Wishing my boys could practice riding their bikes. They are 8 and 6 1/2 and we can not kick the training wheels. I really don't know what we are going to do since my oldest's bike is too big to stay upright even with the extra two wheels. Maybe I'll just start praying they are sent to missions that either have cars or public transportation!
Glad all is well. Still hungry for more...
That was supposed to read NEVER regretted it (ears pierced). Sorry for the confusion.
What a cutie-we make our kids promise that kind of stuff all the time and I love that you got it on tape. Our big year will be 11. Thats how old I was so thats how old my girlie will be. Glad things are getting back to normal for your family.

I have been trying to hold off Sadie too. I told her she had to wait till she was 11. Only because that is when I got mine. But I tell her it is because the holes can get infected and you have to be old enough to take care of them. Although we are really trying to make 8 a huge birthday that it might be fun to surprise her. Just tell her we are going to go on a date and then end up at claires. She would die!! Thanks for the encouragment. And let me know if you have any problems with it in the next couple months. So I have time to back out if I want!
How cute, Ella got her ears pierced! A dream of every little girl I've ever known!!!! I got my daughter's ears pierced when she was 3 months old. I figured I'd just get it over with while she was still too young to be scared of it. Some people think that it's too young, since she wasn't able to make her own decision, but seriously, have you even known a little girl that doesn't want pierced ears??? Plus they are soo dang cute!!!!! Gotta love little girls!
How fun for Ella! I remember begging my parents. It was supposed to be 12 for me, but when I turned 10 I convinced them that it was time because now I was 2 digits and that qualified me for getting 2 holes in my ears. We'll see how that works on Anna. I love that you documented her promise! You should also make her promise not to let her friends pierce their belly buttons at your house with safety pins and ice. I just thought they were stupid, so I just let them do it, but when my mom found out, she wasn't too happy that it took place under her roof! :)
And what a cute Valentine's suprise by Paul! Major points for the flowers for the girls!
