(Breezing Up by Winslow Homer)Today I was able to go to the kids school and teach "Art Masterpiece". I was excited because I LOVE art and I LOVE going to my kids school. The picture and artist we discussed was Breezing Up by Winslow Homer. I love learning more about artists and their techniques. I really love this painting.
So, the funny thing was that this morning as I was getting the kids ready for school I was reminding them that today was the day I would get to come and teach in the class. Ella looked at me and her eyes grew wide. Then she said, "can I choose what you are going to wear?" WHAT?!!! This...coming from my daughter who barley notices if her shirt is on backwards or even matches?! I think she saw my confusion and said, "your not going to wear THAT to school are you?"...as she pointed to my pajama bottoms and bra-less old t-shirt. I assured her that I would shower and get dressed. I really do get ready most days, but never before she leaves for school. She must assume that I stay that way until she gets home from school. I realized that she is now at the stage where parents make a big impression on the kids when they show up for school. I'll try to keep that in mind and only embarrass her on occasion.
I'm sure I didn't do a very good job at teaching, but I sure had a good time.

Ha ha ha! Funny because you always look amazing!!
And love your new signature ;-)
I'm sure you looked darling at school.
My 16 yr old girl recently told me my hair lookes like a helmet. Now, I try really hard to have edgy hair and have been taming it down for the wedding. In January I'm going wild with my hair again.
Oh no, I am sure this is coming my way because I am NEVER ready before they leave for school! Actually, it is my goal to be ready by the time they get home at 3:00!! :)
OK. I love the Kara Jayne signature at the bottom. So cool! Is that your actual handwriting or a font?
That is too funny. My boys don't care about those things yet. But I'm sure my daughter will. She already asks if she looks scroungy and she is 4. It is only a matter of time for me.
I remember very well when my Mom came to school. I thought she was the prettiest, nicest, best Mom ever. And she was. And I'm sure Ella thought the same thing when you came in, too.
On a side note, I've found that my kids already have me pegged. I tried to be cool the other day, wearing a tucked in button down shirt with jeans. Anna and Ellie said, "Mom. Why are you trying to look like Dad?"
I went back to my closet and changed. :)
Whoops, That comment from Adam was actually from me... Julie
Ah kids. Gotta love 'em. I have no doubts you looked great when you went to school. :-)
I bet you did great! I think teaching about art to kids is SO fun.
I LOVE art masterpiece. And I bet you looked as gorgeous as you always do...and that Ella was very proud!
Oh Kara, T-shirts and PJ's is what women wear all day. Why don't you just come straight out and admit that you were wearing the official "Twilight Book Series Uniform". That art stuff is just a cover. With all the movie stuff and book stuff going on with Twilight (see previous post), women all over the world are staying in their PJ's all day and just reading.
I know how these things work.
I am sure you did an awesome job! And you ha dbetter keep up with the trends--cuz I take my fashion cues from you! : )
That is great! How funny. Kids really lets us know what they think...in round about ways.
just trying to catch up a little...Congrats on the new car- I'm sure you love it. Kids are so honest and up front...I love it. I will bet you are the coolest/hippest art teacher ever and I'm sure Ella LOVED having you there!
Kara I'm so glad you're doing Art Masters. I am missing that... if you can believe it-- they don't offer that to the kids here in PA (I'm in shock since they like to boast how many extra programs are provided). I did Art Masters for about 7 years and I'm like you... I'm sure I took more pleasure from it than the children :) You learn so much, now if I could only retain all that information! ANyway, good for you, Kara.
And PS... so glad to hear about your new minivan!
