Wowza!! I guess I need to always remember to resort to blogging when I'm feeling down. I have felt so much love and encouragement through the comments and some personal emails. Thank You!! I've also had some other thoughts and experiences this past day or two that have really helped too.
I have so much to be grateful for and was reminded of all those things constantly yesterday. Church was great as usual. Sacrament meeting can get a little hairy, but the kids are getting better all the time. Our bishop gave some remarks on being grateful and recognizing all our blessings. I'm usually really good at that, so I'm going to put forth an even better effort. There were great testimonies borne, and of course Primary was wonderful. I just love being in there with all those kids every week. It shocks me every week how much I enjoy myself and love all the kids.
Me...gobbling up Ella!- I talk way too much and often get myself into trouble.
- My lack of shyness (is that a word?) has made it possible for me to develop so many friendships and relationships that I cherish. I truly like being nice and chatty with people. I'm sure some people find it disturbing, but I will talk to anyone, anywhere and most of the time I think it lifts their day. I compliment people often (yes, strangers) and always engage with people I'm interacting with. Whether it be the person at the checkout, or the people in the voting line. 99% of the time I walk away happier because I've made contact beyond that of the required communication.
- I don't say things well and often get myself into trouble.
- I have realized that I don't have to say things perfectly for most people to get the intention. I am opinionated, but I NEVER mean personal insult. I think most people are that way and that is why I almost NEVER get offended. If people think differently than me...GREAT! It makes for interesting conversation and growth in my thinking.
- I feel upset with the state of our country and social issues (I don't recommend YouTube videos of angry protesters).
- I have a testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ which is not a perfect knowledge of things. I walk by faith. Faith is powerful and humbling. I feel more solidified in my beliefs and in who I am when my faith is challenged. I feel comfort knowing that God loves each one of us (His children), and is always there to guide and help us. He has a plan and is all powerful. My membership in my church is precious to me and I will not be brought to shame for any of my beliefs. I truly love ALL of Gods children. One thing I have been blessed with is the capacity to love people. I truly can see the good in anyone.
- My house is a disaster despite being perfectly clean less than 24 hours ago.
- My kids watched no TV Saturday besides when the babysitters came, and that meant a lot of creative play. Oh, and guess what?...WE LIVE IN OUR HOME. It isn't a museum, or a showroom. I'm glad that our home is one where friends want to come over and can play and interact. Cleanliness is overrated...right?! Please tell me it is.
- I'm sure I will be getting a photo cop ticket because of the flash that went off in the intersection on my way to the temple for a Primary activity...that just seems wrong.
- We are so blessed to live close to a Temple of the Lord. We are so blessed to be getting three more here in our state over the next several months. One will be about 5 miles away, located just past the soccer fields and Costco!! How's that for convenience?
- I have so many closets, drawers, files, photos, bins, etc. that need to be organized...and I've been saying that for a year.
- I am so grateful for closets, drawers, files, photos, bins, etc. that hold precious memories, and items that help me take care of my family. Paul and I have worked hard to be able to provide a stable life for our kids, and I am grateful to be able to have the "stuff" we need to do that. I will have plenty of time to organize when my kids are all in school all day. For now I need to do my best, but not let those tasks get in the way of nurturing and enjoying my children. Organizing is overrated right? Please tell me it is.
- I need a new car in a bad bad way and can't seem to pull the trigger on such a HUGE purchase.
- This is a great time to buy a car. Car prices have dropped. Gas prices have dropped, and we have always been frugal on the car front. I'm grateful that because of this frugality (again, not sure if it's a word) we are able to buy the car we need. I am so excited to get a new car that will hopefully seat 8, and won't have transmission issues.
- I just found a bin of baby onesies that I made for friends babies...and never sent. I'm seriously dying about that one. Any ideas for what to do with personalized onesies that will not fit the babies anymore (these are not common names)?! Any ideas on how to ask proper forgiveness for never sending the baby gifts?
- I am so grateful to have so many friends that have been blessed with babies. I will send the onesies along with a heartfelt note and gift, and hopefully brighten their day. Who expects a baby gift for their almost one year old?
- I have a dog that I personally have been incapable of house training. I'll take ideas on that one too. I've HAD IT!!
- I'm grateful...hmmmm...how do I spin this one...that my kids will be able to say they had a dog when they were little?! Is that good enough? I'm having a hard time finding the good in the dog. She sure is cute and friendly. How's that?
- Paul and I have been blessed with amazing parents who are still together to this day. They are such good examples of hard work, sacrifice, and unconditional love. None of us are perfect, but I'd dare to say that we got the pick of the litter when it came to parents. Paul's parents were able to come and visit us during Halloween and we enjoyed having them so much. We are lucky enough to now count my parents as our neighbors! Okay, so they live a few miles away, but it's quite an improvement from 675 miles. I got my chattiness (let's call it friendliness) from both my parents, so they are quickly fitting in and making new friends.

- Paul and I have also been blessed with siblings that we love and admire. They all are such great examples of courage and grace throughout the ups and downs of their lives. We truly love hanging out with them and count them as our best friends. We are so grateful that they have chosen such awesome spouses. It is so fun to integrate different styles and personalities into the family and learn and grow from each of them. My kids are so lucky to be surrounded by such great aunts and uncles.
- As I said in my previous post, I am so grateful for my country. It has afforded me the life and opportunities I have today.

What a great post! I definitely need to put a postive twist on things more often in my life. Thanks for the example you are! And yes, cleanliness and being organized is way overrated when you have young kids - I've tried to quit apologizing for living in my house. You are amazing!
I love your new spin. I am glad we all don't have clean houses. I go to friends houses and can't figure out why everyone but my house stays clean. I decided a long time ago. I can yell at my kids and have a clean house or I can be happy with my kids and have a little bit messy house. Love your post.
Isn't it amazing how our moods can affect us, and thankfully change! They say we need the bad to fully experience the good, and that's just what you did on Sunday!
I'm going to take a page out of your book and turn all frowns upside down. That doesn't mean I won't frown initially, that is inevitable, but taking the time to turn it into a smile is a really good idea.
Glad your blog community was there for you -- I love that about blogging.
This will help me think differently about my complaints. Thanks so much!!
I love ya Kara! You are such a great example to me!
What a great post! You are an amazing girl and I've always admired you for it. I am thankful for the world of blogs and facebook, for bringing us in contact again after too many years. You are awesome! BTW - tell your Mom I LOVE her shirt! :)
Kara, I love reading your blog because you always amaze me. You are so wise! I often wonder how you do it all. I'm glad you can embrace whatever may come to you and find the good in it. That's what I'm trying to do too. I just need to do a better job about remembering that on some days! I am certainly lucky to be related to you! And I love that you're so friendly, I wish I was better at making new friends like you!
I can say dido to most of your comments. My house gets dirty in less than 24 hrs. I think women(mothers) all have these days. It is hard to do everything and we put to much pressure on ourselves.
I had a day like that a few days ago...and I am sure I will have another one in a few days. It is nice that our children and husband give us hugs and kisses. It is nice to have the gospel and the big picture. Jennie
Thanks for posting your "twists". It got me to thinking about seeing the good in everything. Yes, a clean house and total organization are definately over-rated. As soon as you are organized, you've forgotten where the smallest item was put, take a drawer out to find it and wa-la....you are back at square one. You will have all the time you need to clean to your hearts' content and organize every little thing when they are all in school, or late at night when you are waiting up for them. Enjoy now!!!
Its great to see you looking up Kara!! You always seem so upbeat I would never know you ever struggled with the regular things us mere mortals deal with!! :)
You are such a great example to me. Thanks for the sweet post to make my night!
You are too cute Kara! I need to be better at looking at the positive as well when I'm feeling down. It's all in our attitude right?! I know sometimes it is hard to come up with the positives, but usually it's not long before we are slapped in the face with gratitude...Thank Goodness!
You made my day! I have missed you posting and so I haven't checked very often so I missed the last few.
I'm with Kristi....we have to experience both...and you do appreciate so much. I love your honesty. We all go through those moments of feeling blah.
You are so blessed and you are such a great example to all of us. Thanks for letting me come read your blog....
I love this, Kara. Thanks for the great thoughts. I love November because it helps me get in the mode of being thankful. And I feel so much happier when I am just plain thankful. thanks for the reminder...
Glad you are feeling better. I should have called you the other night when I was upset. I think we were stewing over the same issue! I had to stay away from Utube and the internet also!
As for being grateful, we all have soooo much to be grateful for, but it doesn't mean we still don't get overwhelmed and sad. I wrote a grateful list on Sunday in my journal because I thought it would make me feel better. And it did....for a couple of hours!
Glad today is a better day. And yes, clean houses are so great, but very overrated!
We live in our house as well...and if you ever feel disorganized come take a peak in our kiddos and our "walk-in" closet. It would be worth the trip to Utah! So glad you are feeling better, your children are so beautiful.
Great post!
I saw pics of a darling family on Shawni's blog :)
-Jennie N.
kara- i clicked on your blog after seeing all the beautiful pics of your family shawni took!! LOVE THEM! I'm sure you are so pleased. How grateful I am that i was able to read this post and the previous one. I SO relate and I SO needed to hear these words today. thank you for that. You have such a fun personality and you oooze goodness. I'm amazing at how many wonderful mom's and families I'm surrounded by...only wish I knew you better darn it!
Let me clarify, I'm amazed at how many wonderful mom's and families I'm surrounded by YOU being one of them!
Kara - you're my hero. You are so creative and fun. How awesome to put such a positive spin on everything - it puts things into perspective doesn't it. Thanks for that - I really needed it today!
Christy
Kara,
I just logged on and saw your cute entries! You are awesome! I know we are our worst enemies at times. You are incredible and it's okay every once in a while to feel gloomy. It means we are human. How great that we can see the positive after a storm and keep going. I love you! Ash
I forgot one thing that I loved that you recognized in yourself. You see the good in everyone! That is so precious and so unique Kara! I think of you all the time in that regard so thank you for being an example and inspiration in my life! I love you dearly! Ash
love this. you are talented and beautiful and thoughtful.
Kara, what a great post. It is so nice to have a little perspective and enjoy our families. I like that you put a positive spin on your list--and you can add that as another great quality you possess!!! :)
What a great reminder for us all. I had one of those days yesterday where I honestly believed I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown....just too many things all at once. It's amazing what a good night's sleep and a new perspective can make.
Can't wait to go check out your pictures that others have referred to. Wish I could have Shawni here to do mine.
That's the Kara I know, glad you are back to your old self. A clean house is overrated, but does feel nice...I'm kinda like you but at times I turn a blind eye and I'm okay about my dirty floor. That's great your parents live close by now, we are lucky to have both our parents and all our siblings within 30 minutes. You are blessed in so many ways!
Could your family be any cuter????? Just saw Shawni's pics. Love love love them!
I want your hair, hmmmm, love your shirt and kids shoes....okay did I mention darling???? Okay one more thing you always have the best color of lipstick on and you and I have similiar skin so sometime email me that color. I don't wear lipstick a lot but when I do I am in need of a good color.
It is true when you "count your blessings" it "will surprize you".
Great post. A perfect reminder for us all~!
Glad to hear things are looking up
I seem to have many of the same deficits/strengths that you have when it comes to speaking. "My stupid mouth" by John Mayer is my life's theme song. We're reminded that our greatest weaknesses can become our greatest strengths. You're doing it Kara. Good on you!
I love your great positive spin on things. Yes, cleanliness is overrated. Better to have kids who grow up with great memories of being in their home then memories of mom cranky telling them to pick up constantly. That's my take.
Hey Kara...
I really enjoyed this post, and it was the pick-me-up I needed. I have been feeling much the same way lately (especially w/ 1,2,& 3) and it was conforting to know that other people feel the same way sometimes. :)
I liked all of your positive comments, they were good reminders for me of what I am grateful for in my own life.
FYI, I have ALWAYS enjoyed talking with you!! :)
I haven't popped in for so long. Way too long!
I love this post, Kara. I love how yo went back over your discouragements and found the blessings. Thanks for the inspiration :)
Kara...I don't know how to vocalize this becuase it feels so personal...I was just on my knees praying to Hevenly Father to help be get back to myself. I have not felt like my happy self for months and months now. Minutes later I was on the computer and thought, "I haven't checked Kara's blog lately." I am sitting her bawling becuase I realize and am overwhelmed with the answer to adjust my attitude. Could the answer be that easy and that hard all at the same time. I have been stuck in this pitty party for way to long. It's painful to even think about all the things that hurt and try to spin them positivly... Am I so un-grateful! Thanks for the post. You are such an inspration to all who know you. I LOVE hearing you rant about things. I been missing that on our morning runs. love ya
I wish I could email you this but am not sure how so hope you read this comment.
I think that you live in UT so I am not trying to sign you up for this. Just offering it bc I know it would help.
My husband is a dog trainer, his puppy programs are not too expensive. Check him out, he is the the dog trainer that goes on 971zht.
Potty training a dog can be tricky, you really should give him a call :)

ps love your blog AND i found red necklace just like the one you made for the weekly nie auctions at gardner village last week SO excited.
WHO ARE YOU!?
Amazing.
I guess that 'who are you' made me sound surprised when really I am not at all. You are one of the best people that I know. Of corse your blog only further confirms that fact.
I am so glad that we are friends.
I love reading your great insight.
