I know I'm extremely late posting about our July trip to Utah, but blogging just hasn't been in the cards for me lately. It'll happen...eventually!
This is how our trip to Utah started. NOT FUN!! Our transmission went out three days before our trip and we miraculously found someone to fix it in time. Problem was that we only got about 1/2 hour out of town on that day before we ended up like this on the side of the road.
So, Paul went with the tow truck and I stayed on the side of a terribly busy street with my four small kids in the 113 degree heat. My darling sister in law came straight from the grocery store (20min away) to pick us up while all her groceries baked in the car.
Needless to say we weren't going to take that car to Utah anymore. So, we rented a car and tried again the next morning. I know I just posted about how I still didn't need a new car and that I was fine with our 7 year old "old reliable"?! Well, that has changed. I didn't know what I was missing until I drove the rental van (2008 Toyota Sienna) for two weeks. I'm still not ready to jump on anything, but our van has been back in for transmission issues three times since we returned home and I've had it. So, now I've got to decide what I'm going to commit to for the next 5+ years or so. I'd love your suggestions.
I must say that we were lucky that the car died just 1/2 hour into the trip instead of in the middle of nowhere. Yup, just tryin' to look on the bright side!

Oh Kara! I'm so sorry! What a pain!
We have a Chevy Tahoe that we LOVE and haven't had any problems with it.
And WAY TO GO with your triathalon. You're a stud!
Kara-so sad to see! I'll be sad to see that car go since that's what you drove when you lived in WI. I just can't picture you in anything else!!! Will you stick with a minivan again??
You know my pick- 15 passenger van. you can get the 2008 model with only 10K miles for only $18K. Do you have the guts???
What laughs you will have about this trip in the future. Lucky you to look for a new car - good luck! I didn't want a mini van - still don't, but we ended up with a Honda Odyssey and love it (as much as I can love a minivan) :-)
Oh, I am so sorry about your car trouble. I just ran out of gas at the snow shack today. I hate car issues. I don't even like filling my car up with gas. haha Maybe it is because I drive a Tahoe and it is expensive. I know you can get killer deals on them right now. I love my car. LOVE my car! Even though it's about $85 to fill up right now, I highly recommend it. No issues and it is so nice to drive. We have a Rocket Box that we put on the top for road trips. Good luck in your quest - I hate car shopping :(
Yeah, mine is 5 years old and I want an upgrade...those new models are so awesome!
We got a Suburban... and I LOVE IT!! Cargo room, fits 8 people, comfy, DRIVES GREAT. The only bad part it the gas...
Oh Kara! I hate car issues! Seriously HATE them. It's such an inconvience plus they're so darn expensive! And all you get in the end is just what you had before it broke down and lots of dollars missing from the bank. So I totally empathize with you. Glad you were all safe and not in the middle of nowhere.
Good luck on the new car purchase! I have no idea what is good for a family of 6, so hopefully you get some good suggestions.
Hi Kara,
That sounds like it was awful for you guys!! We have had car issues every time we have moved or every 4 years. Our Montana just broke down in June and we bought a Honda Odyssey LXR with the bonuses. I LOVE it!! It seats 8 and has all sorts of neat stuff. I seriously find something new about it every day!!
Hope you are having a great summer!!
we have the Toyota Sienna and love it. LOVE.
